thx, it works in multiplayer online but no maps in singleplayer/offline

Hmmm, just spent the last hour downloading the Desert Conflict (client) mod, but when I run it, there's no maps to choose from. Is this meant for on-line play only?

How about a friday night fight?
I logged on earlier after upgrading to 1.41, first time I've managed to take Wake Island single-handed, being the only player there, lol.

i have only just discovered the fun of bf2 - will try out when i figure out how to drive the aircraft

I want the gears that would not physically be able to change from 5th to 1st in 2/10ths of a second, I want a realistic time lag before you can change from one to the next. I want engines that blow up if you change from 4th at 85mph to 1st or at least render some of the gears useless. I want a gearbox that simulates harsh treatment by sticking or missing a cog, so that in the end the less realistic drivers get penalised for their rough treatment.
Oh, and I want a pay rise.

if you have £40 to spare, why oh why oh why did we have to put up with all your whinging posts about not being able to afford S2? The posts went on and on and on.
Take your £40, buy s2 first and get a cheap wheel for now to get into it. Then in 6 months save up and get an upgraded wheel.

learn to drive it smoother, you must be over-driving it in every corner for this to happen. Drive slower into the bends, keep in control, you will exit corners faster and get better laptimes and avoid wrecking your tyres.

I just got a Dell 22" Widescreen lcd monitor, its bloody marvellous, so good for race games, flight sims and photoshop stuff, breathed a new lease of life into a lot of my old games, once tweaked to run on widescreen format.
there was another post here a couple of weeks agi about widescreens too, which suggested that most of the main names (Taiwan/Korea leading the manufacture field) used generic flat panel displays from the same big chinese factory source. Now some areas of my business encroach on the FPD market so I would suggest there is a fair bit of truth in this statement. Therefore there may really not be much difference in quality between the different brands, you just pay more for some names and smarter styling (Sony, HP) with the basic quality being the same. In this case, I'd go for the best you can afford within reason; if there's a cheap chinese one more than £50 cheaper than a Dell or Samsung, for example then I would be suspicious. Otherwise Samsung are now world leaders in FPD technology along with Panasonic and Hitachi, who will all now sell as Japanese (more money) but use overseas (China & Korea) components.

Since this post has turned into its own 'improvement suggestions' thread I think it belongs in the right section.

It's really simple - theres a little button you can click. Default is on.
The Windows Vista security centre has more info. You can turn on/off firewall, anti-spam, antivirus, internet security, user account security, each has a little button next to them. (Hint: Green - on, Red = off)

Just disable the account security option so it doesn't ask you 3 times to confirm if you want to create a new folder on your C: drive.
That might help the save replays issue, it doesn't like programs saving files to disk unless they have a note from Uncle Bill.

Way back in Papy's nascar 2003 (and probably earlier) too much close drafting on the superspeedways could cause cooling problems. Pull out of the slipstream a little and chill your water a bit, all part of the real-life tactics, these little touches add a lot to the realism of a game.
